The Fox

The fox is the subject of many a folk tale renowned for its cunning and ability to “out-fox” the hounds of the hunt. Eyes alert to movement the fox also has an acute sense of hearing and smell. Mostly active at night, they are resourceful at foraging for food in both countryside and town.

The hand painted wooden boxes depict a red fox leaping to catch a small mouse it heard moving in the grass. You can see the mouse hiding on the side of the box. The fox will listen for movement of small mammals in the undergrowth, leap on the spot they hear the sound from and pin the prey with their forepaws. Here in America as in England, I have foxes visit my backyard.
