The Frog

The common frog in Britain has smooth, moist skin mottled in shades of green, yellow or brown. They spend most of their time on land, returning to spawn in shallow ponds in the first three months of the year. Here in Michigan, my garden is full of frogs. They jump out in springy leaps from under the ground cover when disturbed, quite a job not stepping on them whilst weeding!

Each frog picture is first burnt into the wood then coloured with several thin glazes. The box sides are decorated with bulrushes or “cats' tails” as they call them locally. My larger boxes have a dragonfly tantalisingly out of reach of the frog.
